Have you heard about the Diverging Diamond that is descending upon Nassau County? For our August 8th meeting we were honored to have as our guest speaker Ms. Odette Struys, Public Information Officer, Florida Department of Transportation who gave us the inside scoop on this curious French-based phenomenon. The Diverging Diamond in question is the new traffic interchange being constructed at SR 200 and I-95.
This new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) is part of the major road construction taking place between I-95 and Nassauville Road, with which everyone in our area has had at least some experience. Odette gave us a presentation on the entire DOT project and what it means to our community as well as a tutorial on Diverging Diamond Interchanges. As a bonus, she was accompanied by two of the key engineers on this project, Ms. Carrie Smithheart and Mr. Al Moyle, PE, who answered questions and provided technical details of interest.
In the audience that night were musicians Les DeMerle and Bonnie Eisele who are personal friends of Odette. During the meeting Les gave an overview of the upcoming Amelia Island Jazz Festival, which is a wonderful and well-known event on the island.
