Marie Fenn, President of Ottima Group (ottimagroup.com) a brand management and strategic planning company, will be April’s guest speaker. As President and Managing Director for the National Peanut Board, Marie will share some interesting insight on the complications of managing through political quagmire and regulatory barriers to help the humble peanut industry flourish in the international marketplace. Our guest speaker for the November meeting was travel expert, Ange Wallace, President, Wallace Pierson Travel here on Amelia Island. Ange is a true travel consultant who walks the walk, flies the skies and sails the seas and is therefore well-qualified to guide others who wish to explore the world. She shared some of her knowledge and advice about how travel has evolved over the years and suggest some new and exciting destination ideas. At the October, 2015 meeting we were treated to an excellent presentation on Rayonier’s partnership with Nassau County on two large-scale land use plans that will evolve over many decades – the Crawford Diamond Industrial Park and the East Nassau Sector Plan, a mixed-use development, known to some locals as the TerraPointe development. Over the next 70-100 years, the East Nassau Sector Plan will include houses, offices, shops, resort facilities, medical facilities, schools, and industrial space on 24,000 acres that is largely located north of SR 200/AIA between I-95 and Chester Road to the state line. Our speaker in September 2015 was Mr. Todd Lindner from the Jacksonville Aviation Authority who is project manager for the new Cecil Field Spaceport operation. Todd gave us an overview of the lengthy and complex process it took to get Cecil Field certified as a spaceport. He and his team had to coordinate with a number of government agencies, all branches of the military, the FAA and local governing authorities and communities. After several years of effort Cecil Spaceport is now officially certified and they are hosting several companies in the space travel industry at the site. … read more
Shaun Harrell from Prospectus Web Development was our featured speaker at the August 11th meeting. He discussed trends in website development and demoed several example sites. He also presented an outline of the evolution of Search Engine Algorithms and their effect on website visibility, especially the recent Mobilegeddon update. Since April, if your site is not deemed mobile ready by Google, you will not be shown in mobile queries. He then launched the new EABC website and described how it incorporated some of the new trends. As promised during the meeting, he posted an outline of his presentation and links to several of the resources displayed at the meeting. June 19 Petanque Social
The Petanque social on Tuesday June 19 was a complete success with more than 50 members in attendance. After some brief instructions from Phillipe, everyone played Petanque until we broke for snacks. A nice breeze and mild temperatures punctuated a special evening timed to include a spectacular sunset over the Yacht Basin and Amelia River.
