The meeting started with an introduction by Phillipe Boets who made us aware of the “Coffee stop” in downtown Fernandina of the classic cars that were shipped in from Belgium to Newark. These 160 Belgium classic cars drove from New York to Miami in 8 days. Quite an achievement! To learn more about this adventure visit their website at www.TourAmerical.com.
The meeting continued with Val Schwec who talked more about how Kinder Morgan is involved in our local Port. Val is the Commercial Director for the Southeast Region for Kinder Morgan Terminals. He has been associated with the marine industry since 1983 when he joined Van Ommeren, a 150 year old Dutch shipping company with U.S. headquarters in Greenwich, CT. In 1988 he moved to Fernandina Beach, FL to work exclusively with Van Ommeren’s terminal division. In 1997 he became a minority owner of what was then called Nassau Terminals, Inc. which was eventually sold to Kinder Morgan. Val stayed on as the Port Director for the Ocean Highway and Port Authority and Terminal Manager with operational and commercial responsibilities for Kinder Morgan.
Thank you Val for giving us this very informative presentation about the Port of Fernandina.
